General meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) was held.

The meeting was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The head of state delivered a speech at the general meeting of ANAS. 

“During 70 years Academy has passed a long and successful way. Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has made a very valuable contribution to the strengthening of the intellectual potential of our country. It has made a valuable contribution to the training. Today this venture plays an active role in the overall development of our country, scientists are conducting research, accelerate the dynamics of the future development of the country.

I really want to Azerbaijani scientists in the future play a more active role in the comprehensive development of our country. Because, the future of our country is directly linked to the level of scientific potential.

I am confident that the dynamics of our economic development will continue, as it is based on the work already undertaken, infrastructure projects, an excellent investment climate, while at the same time, the powerful economic structure of the world appreciate our efforts. And the World Bank and International Monetary Fund believe that in the coming years in the region, Azerbaijan will have the highest rate of economy in the developing Eastern Europe countries. It is no coincidence, Azerbaijan has awarded 40th place in the Davos World Economic Forum, on the competitiveness of the economy. This is a very high figure. Take the 40th position among the two hundred countries, ahead of many developed countries - it is really a great achievement, and we do not have the expense of oil and gas. This was made possible thanks to well thought-out policy, economic reforms. We should try to maintain these high growth in the coming years, and thus make the long-term economic development and sustainable.

Our economic success and economic independence are the foundation of the state independence. If we were in a state of dependence on other countries, it could not pursue an independent policy. Our strength in this. So we try to make maximum use of internal resources and no one could depend. If you're going to depend, it will have to carry out orders or others suffer. We do not want to depend on anyone. We want to go our own way, our people lived better, and that our state has become even stronger. I want to reiterate that economic independence is the foundation of the state independence. Therefore, I believe that scientists should make, and will make valuable suggestions in relation to this new situation, stated President Ilham Aliyev.

Being grateful to President Ilham Aliyev for his participation in the anniversary, president of ANAS Acad. Akif Alizadeh stated that, a group of scientists were awarded with the Order of Mr. President, and this step by him has been considered as a high value to scientists and science. Akif Alizadeh noted that, scientists have not come empty-handed to the 70th anniversary of academy, they have prepared valuable artifacts. President of the Academy expressed his gratitude to the President Ilham Aliyev for his care and attention on behalf scientists once more.

Nobel laureate, Prof. George Fitzgeralt Smoot spoke about rich history of ANAS, stated his awareness of Azerbaijan scientists’ achievements in various fields including, physics, biophysics, space industry, and his willingness to collaborate via them.

Director of Joint Nuclear Research Institute in Dubna, Acad. Victor Matveyev read the letter of the scientific temple led by him. “Azerbaijan must proud of his scientists,”- said V. Matveyev and made speech on ties with Azerbaijani colleagues, carried out projects, and thanked to President Ilham Aliyev for care shown to science.

After official part 70th anniversary was completed with lectures.

Chancellor of State Administrative Academy under AR President, Acad. Urkhan Alakbarov delivered a lecture “Role of Azerbaijan science in stable development of the country”, Minister of Communication and High Technologies Acad. Ali Abbasov “Azerbaijan science and development of high technologies”, Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov “Carrying out researches in the highest educational enterprises of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, Academician-secretary of ANAS Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Acad. Ahliman Amiraslanov “Development outlooks of Biology science in Azerbaijan”, Vice-President of ANAS Acad. Isa Habibbayli “Development outlooks of humanitarian sciences in Azerbaijan”.

President of International Turkic Academy, Prof. Darhan Kidiraly congratulated the staff on the occasion of 70th anniversary and wished successes. He presented golden medal of the International Turkic Academy to Acad. Akif Alizadeh.

Later on, head of Department of International Relations of ANAS Presidium Administration, PhD, senior lecturer Gulam Babayev delivered congratulations of foreign academic ventures and prestigious scientific dignity on the 70th anniversary of ANAS.

In closing, “Azerbaijan temple of science” documentary devoted to jubilee was displayed.
