On November 14, the next meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held. Firstly, academician Akif Alizadeh, President of ANAS, presented awards to employees awarded with the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Economy of ANAS in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Participants were informed about the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On approval of the new composition of the Editorial Board of the Azerbaijani National Encyclopedia". It was noted that the head of the editorial staff was President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, first deputy - chairman of the Presidential Administration, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, vice-president of ANAS, director of Oil and Gas Institute, academician Ibrahim Guliyev, vice-president of ANAS , Director of Literature Institute named after Nizami Ganjavi, academician Isa Habibbeyli and chairman of Azerbaijan Writers' Union, People's Writer Anar Rzayev.

It was noted that the editor-in-chief of the Research Center of "National Encyclopedia of Azerbaijan" is the president of ANAS, the director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, academician Akif Alizadeh, the responsible secretary, the vice-president of ANAS, director of the Scientific Center of Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia, academician Tofig Nagiyev.

Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev and Chairman of the Board of the Administration of Icheri Sheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Asker Alakbarov’s gratitude letter was read.

Then, scientific-organizational issues were considered. Firstly, the activity of the "Turkology" journal of ANAS for 2016-2018 was discussed. The rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages, academician Kamal Abdullayev said that the journal had been published in April 1970 as a joint publication of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union. He noted that the journal was published in 1992 under the name "Turkology". Speaking about the serious financial difficulties of the publication during the first years of independence, the academician emphasized that the journal was published at intervals.

Academician Kamal Abdullayev underlined that in the last three years included articles of scientists fromUS, Germany, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, Russia, Egypt, Iran, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Central Asia, South Korea and etc.

Taking into account the above, Presidium issued a statement on the composition of the new International Advisory Board covering various fields of science in connection with the expansion of the magazine profile and other assignments.

The next issue on the agenda was the creation of the "Azerbaijan fauna" - the National Information System. Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov, academician-secretary of the Department of Biology and Medical Sciences of ANAS, said that the fauna of Azerbaijan, which is rich in its richness, occupies a special place in the world biodiversity, and also contains 70 percent of the Caucasian fauna. As a result of 80 years of scientific research of scientists and specialists, 1500 species of primitive, 1200 species of parasitic worm, 290 species of rotators, 360 species of crustaceans, 200 species of mollusks and more than 25,000 insects have been found in national fauna , About 2000 species of spiders and other species are reflected".

The 4-volume "The World of Animals of Azerbaijan" book is of great importance among the publications. The academic secretary of the department, however, said that more than 20 years have elapsed since the publication of the book, with changes and upsurges in the application of modern methods in world zoological research, and that modern information technology has made a strong impetus to this area. Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov added that the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, has presented to the Presidium proposals on the current situation in this area.

Taking into account the above-mentioned issues, as well as the strengthening of the national information provision of zoological research, as well as the importance of implementing the goals set out in the "National Strategy for the Protection and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2017-2020" and other relevant state documents, Presidium made a decision. Relevant assignments were given to the Institute of Zoology of ANAS.

The decision on the approval of the Statute of the Center for Strategic Studies under the Presidium of ANAS was adopted at the event.
