Today, one of the most influential figures in modern humanities and social science in Azerbaijan, an outstanding literary critic, talented scientist, experienced teacher, Honored Scientist, cavalier of “Sharaf” and “Shokhrat” Orders, chairman of the Committee on Science and Education of AR Milli Majlis , vice-president of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi Isa Habibbayli is 70th.

Academician Isa Habibbayli was born in 1949 in the Danzik village, Sharur district of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In 1971 he graduated the Department of Language and Literature of the Nakhchivan branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute.

In 1971-1975 he worked as a teacher in a secondary school of the Sharur region. Since 1975, he worked at Nakhchivan State University as a teacher, associate professor, vice-rector for scientific affairs and in 1996-2013 - rector of this University.

In 1980, Isa Habibbayli defended PhD on “Azerbaijani romantic lyrics at the beginning of the twentieth century”, in 1996 - Doctoral on “Jalil Mammadguluzade: environment and contemporaries”, in 1997 - Professor. In 2001, he was elected as a corresponding member of ANAS and in 2003 – as an active member of ANAS.

Academician Isa Habibbayli devoted more than fifty years of his life to the study of literary in Azerbaijan, the life and work of his outstanding figures, the study of the history of public opinion, the formation of the scientific foundations of national ideology, the development of humanitarian and social scientific thought of modern Azerbaijan. His rich scientific research, which combines the theoretical principles of various fields of science, attracts attention with its unique versatility and professionalism, scientific and organizational activities - using innovative management technologies and his social activities - with a clear national and state position.

The name of Mirza Jalil Mammadguluzadeh takes the first place among the authors who are the object of research of the scientist. In his books “Jalil Mammadguluzade. Republic”, “Mirza Jalil and Mamedguluzuzade family. Letters”, “Jalil Mammadguluzade: fate and art” the author were comprehensively explored the difficult life path and the rich work of the great writer.

An outstanding scientist has been vice president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences since April 2013 in the field of humanities and social sciences.

Scientist made a significant contribution to the formation of the ideals of Azerbaijanism in the humanities and public opinion, in the definition of the scientific and theoretical concept of Azerbaijanism in science.

He is the author of “Temple of Science” film dedicated to the development of ANAS and the author of the words “Academic March”.

Academician I.Habibbbayli is also Director of the Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi. In recent years, by the initiative of the scientist, a new structural units have been established at the Institute of Literature, as well as new departments to promote a more comprehensive and in-depth study of domestic and world literature. Under the ledership of academician Isa Habibbayli, the Institute of Literature was re-established and expanded relations with leading scientific centers and universities of the world.

Academician Isa Habibbayli is one of the main creators of modern Azerbaijani literary science. The scientist’s studies on the problems of realism in Azerbaijani literature, national romanticism, literary movements - neorealism, modernism, postmodernism, magic realism, decadentism that arose at the end of the 20th century, contribute to the development and enrichment of literary criticism with new theoretical principles.

Isa Habibbayli, who was a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was served as chairman of the Commission on Human Rights and International Relations in the legislative body of the Autonomous Republic. Isa Habibbayli was elected as a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the third, fourth and fifth convocations and heads the Committee on Science and Education in the highest legislative body.

Scientific and pedagogical activity and the achievements of an outstanding scientist are highly appreciated by our state. He was awarded the honorary title of Honored Worker of Science, he was awarded the “Sharaf” and “Shohrat” Orders and the Order of Merit for the Matherland, 1st degree.

Isa Habibbayli is an active member of the International Academy of Informatization, an Honorary Doctor of the South Russian University and an honorary friend of the University of Ankara. He is the winner of the TURKSOY “Mollah Panah Vagif”, “Rasul Rza Prizes” of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan and “Muhammad Huseyn Shahriyar” of the University of Tabriz.
