Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater hosted an event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of outstanding writer, playwright and publicist Jalil Mammadguluzadeh.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev recalled that President Ilham Aliyev signed the relevant decree "Celebrating 150th anniversary of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh". Pursuant to the order, together with the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education and ANAS was instructed to prepare an action plan for the 150th anniversary of the great democratic writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, taking into account the proposals of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan. Today's event is held according to the same plan.

The Minister stressed that Mirza Jalil has made a significant contribution to the history of Azerbaijani literature and public opinion, has rendered great services in the protection and development of the native language, awakening of the Azerbaijani people, as well as the fight against false religious propagandists, prejudices and ignorance.

Later, People's writer Anar spoke about the state care for Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s creativity, his literary-cultural heritage and shared his thoughts on the writer's immortal works.

At the event, vice-president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli said that Jalil Mammadguluzadeh is a powerful person who played an exceptional role in the development of Azerbaijani literature to a new level and formed a complete literary school. Molla Nasraddin journal, which promotes the national awakening, renewal movement and has a powerful influence on the development of freedom ideas in Azerbaijan and beyond, is exactly the product of Mirza Jalil.

Finally, actors from the National Academic National Drama Theater, Young Spectators Theater, Russian Drama Theater and Academic Musical Theater presented their performances based on creative examples by Jalil Mammadguluzadeh.
