People's Artist Akif Asgarov, an artist-sculptor who has rendered invaluable services in the presentation, promotion and introduction of the history, literature and culture of Azerbaijan, is 80 years old.

Known for his valuable works both in our country and abroad, Akif Asgarov's creative concept is distinguished by its aesthetic richness and psychological expression of images.

The works of the sculptor have been exhibited in various exhibitions since 1967. His sculptures are displayed in Russia - in the Tretyakov Gallery (bust of Huseyn Javid), in Egypt - on the portal of the Library of Alexandria (sculpture composition "Nizami Ganjavi and “Khamsa"). National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS stores works of the artist in the permanent exposition as well. The busts of Javanshir, Koroglu, Mehdi Huseynzadeh, the poetic figure of Khurshidbanu Natavan and Alexander Duma displayed in the museum are valuable works. He is also a member of the museum's Scientific Council.

The statues of chemist Yusif Mammadaliyev in Baku, Nizami Ganjavi in Chisinau, Moldova, and Mehdi Huseynzadeh in Sempas, Slovenia, are obvious evidence of the author's invaluable contribution to the development of urban sculpture.

Akif Asgarov is also the author of several tombstones belonging to a special group of monumental monuments. He is the author of the tombstone memorial complex of Alimardan bey Topchubashov, one of the brightest figures in the history of Azerbaijan. The tombstone of A. Topchubashov in the famous French Saint-Cloud cemetery, designed by the artist in 2006 based on project of the director of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature, academician Rafael Huseynov, has been included in the golden fund of our sculptural treasury.

Today, People's Artist Akif Asgarov, who is celebrating his 80th birthday, was awarded the 2nd degree "Labor" order by the order of President Ilham Aliyev "For merits to the development of sculpture in Azerbaijan."
