A round table on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of prominent Azerbaijani writer and statesman Nariman Narimanov was organized at the Aran Regional Branch of the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS.

Speaking at the event, the head of the Aran Regional Branch of the museum named after Khagani Shirvani, PhD in Philology Yagut Bahadurgizi spoke about the rich creativity and journalistic activity of Nariman Narimanov, who played a great role in enriching Azerbaijani literature with advanced ideas and democratic opinions.

Yagut Bahadurgizi noted that Nariman Narimanov paid special attention to the protection of cultural heritage of our past, the purity of the native language, worked for the development of science, education and culture, treated with respect and care the national ideology of the time.

Then a video reflecting the life and activity of the prominent writer was shown.

Speaking at the event, Gunesh Khudiyeva, a language and literature teacher at Kurdamir City Secondary School No. 3, spoke about the richness of language, style and themes in Narimanov's prose and drama, as well as in his translations. He stressed that in his historical dramas, satirical plays, as well as in prose, the writer criticized religious fanaticism, illiteracy and arbitrariness, and promoted friendship, protest against oppression and divine love among peoples.

Shafag Agayeva, a language and literature teacher at Karrar secondary school, spoke about the writer's articles and feuilletons with progressive intellectuals of the time in “Irshad” and “Hayat” newspapers, “Mektab” journal, and later in “Hummat” newspaper, which he opened and edited. He spoke of slandering intellectuals who were alienated from the people, who did not know the life and language of the people, of exposing fraudulent clergy, and of talking about ways to free working women from slavery.

Professor Habil Mammadov, Head of the Department of International Relations at Baku Slavic University, who is a virtual guest of the round table, said Narimanov was a statesman who entered the history of Azerbaijan's socio-political thought and fought for the freedom and happiness of the people.
