The meeting of the Toponymy Commission of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan considered the issue of restoring the historical name of the liberated village of Madagiz in Nagorno-Karabakh and unanimously decided to return the historical name of the village Sugovushan.

Chairman of the Toponymy Commission Isa Habibbayli praised the victories of our heroic army in the liberation of our lands under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev in terms of restoring historical justice. It was noted that the return of place names in Nagorno-Karabakh, which were artificially and forgedly changed by Armenians, will be another example of the restoration of historical justice.

The decision of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to return the historical name of the village of Madagiz, liberated from occupation by our glorious army, is an important step in this direction.

MPs Sevinj Fataliyeva, Sabir Rustamkhanli, Musa Guliyev, Hikmet Mammadov, Aziz Alakbarov and others considered the renaming of Madagiz into Sugovushan as a necessary step in terms of restoring the ancient place name.
