At a meeting of ANAS Presidium were considered questions about the announcement of the competition for a "Gold Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan after Nizami Ganjavi" and nominal prizes of ANAS. Note that, by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev to the right of awarding the "Golden Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan named after Nizami Ganjavi" was given to the Presidium of ANAS.

In his speech on this issue the President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh said that, every year this medal awarded to citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan and foreigners for the important fundamental and applied research results, works, discoveries and inventions, as well as for special merits in the development of science.

Also Academy leader noted that, the award of ANAS after Nasreddin Tusi, Hasan bey Zardabi, Academician Uzeir Hajibeyli, Academician Mirasadulla Mirkasimova, Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev, Academician Musa Aliyev and Abbaskulu aga Bakikhanov awarded in order to encourage scientists who have made a great contribution to the development of science and have achieved important scientific results, to research further level, as well as to perpetuate the memory of a number of scientists and thinkers of Azerbaijan.

Considering all the above, the Bureau took the decision on the announcement of the competition for a "Gold Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan named after Nizami Ganjavi" and nominal prizes of ANAS in 2017. According to the regulations, candidates for the awards may be nominated by full members and corresponding members of the Academy, the scientific departments of ANAS, scientific councils of research institutions and higher educational institutions, scientific societies, scientific and technical advice, functioning at ministries and state committees of the Republic. Presentation of candidates and the relevant documents must be presented to the Expert Commission on 17 March.
