Scientific research is an immensely diversified endeavor with thousands of scientists working on new innovations, globally. It is their persistent hard work that has enabled the entire mankind to lead a much better life. As new scientific discoveries find the light of the day, only better is expected from the future. In one way or another we’re all thankful to scientific research for making our lives easier and far more quality driven than before. There are various prestigious awards constituted by various agencies to be bestowed upon the best innovators in the field of science and technology. Here is a list of prestigious science awards.

Nobel Prize - The Nobel Prize is awarded to scientists with outstanding achievements in the field of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and for peace. The set of annual international awards are bestowed by Swedish and Norwegian committees. Awarded in honor of Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, the awards are the top most honors in the field of science

The Copley Medal - It is a scientific award given by the Royal Society, London to anyone with outstanding achievements in any field of science. It is the oldest Royal Society medal that is still and the oldest surviving scientific award. Till date, it has been awarded to numerous notable scientists and 52 Nobel Prize winners.

Albert Einstein World Award of Science - The award is presented by the World Cultural Council as an incentive to science and technological research and development. The main motto is to honor those scientists whose works have done good to the mankind. The recipient of the award is selected by an interdisciplinary committee, which is composed of world renowned scientists including Nobel laureates.

Wolf Foundation Prize - This is considered to be one of the most respected among all the awards in the field of science. The award is presented to recognize contributions of scientists and artists irrespective of their nationality, color, religion and other biases. The prize is awarded in six fields – Chemistry, Mathematics, Medicine, Physics, Agriculture and Arts.

Kyoto Prize - The prize is considered one of the most respected in the field. It is Japanese award that recognized outstanding work in the field of science and technology along with philosophy and arts. Awarded since 1985, the nominees for the award are selected by the Kyoto Prize selection committee.

Dan David Prize - Awarded by a joint international enterprise that is headquartered at Tel Aviv University, Dan David Prize recognizes and encourages innovative programs in various fields including science and technology. The prize covers three dimensions – Past, Present and Future – which represent the three realms of human achievement.

Kavli Prize - The prize is awarded to the scientists with outstanding work in the field of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. A joint venture between the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letter, the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and the Kavli Foundation, the organization also awards three international prizes every second year.

Japan Prize - The award honors the achievements of scientist throughout the world in recognition of the outstanding achievements they’ve made in the field of science and technology. These awards are given to people who have contributed in advancing the scientific knowledge and also served for the cause of peace and human prosperity.

Heineken Prize - The award recognizes unique achievements in the various fields of science including biophysics, biochemistry, environmental sciences, medicine, history and cognitive sciences. The awards are presented each year to five globally renowned scientists across the world. The recognition is named in honor of Alfred Heineken, Chairman of Heineken Holdings and his son.

The Franklin Institute Awards - These are one of the oldest, prestigious and comprehensive set of awards in the field of science and technology recognized the world over. It was in the year 1824 that the awards found their inception and since then numerous scientists, engineers, inventors and entrepreneurs have been bestowed with several awards under myriad categories. The awards began with the basic objective of identifying talented young scientists and giving them recognitions for their work.

Turing Award is an annual prize given by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) to an individual selected for contributions of a technical nature made to the computing community.

King Faisal International Prize is an annual award sponsored by King Faisal Foundation presented to dedicated men and women whose contributions make a positive difference. The foundation awards prizes in five categories: Service to Islam; Islamic studies; Arabic Language and Literature; Science; Medicine.

The Abel Prize is an international prize awarded annually by the Government of Norway to one or more outstanding mathematicians. The prize amount is 6 million NOK (about 750,000 Euro) and was awarded for the first time on 3 June 2003.

The Fields Medal is a prize awarded to two, three, or four mathematicians under 40 years of age at the International Congress of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), a meeting that takes place every four years. The Fields Medal is sometimes viewed as the highest honour a mathematician can receive. Meanwhile, The Rolf Nevanlinna Prize is awarded once every 4 years at the International Congress of Mathematicians, for outstanding contributions in Mathematical Aspects of Information Sciences, The Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize for Applications of Mathematics is mathematics award, for outstanding mathematical contributions that have found significant applications outside of mathematics, Crafoord Prize is awarded in four categories astronomy, mathematics, geosciences and bioscience.

In addition, Mendeleev Golden Medal was established since 1998, and The Lomonosov Gold Medal for outstanding achievements in the natural sciences and the humanities by the Russian Academy of Sciences as well.
