Inclusion of a hand-written copy of the "Divan" by Fuzuli in the Register of the "Memory of the World" program reflects its exceptional value May 30, 2018 | 18:14 / Important events

On May 10 at the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad FuzuliANAS a presentation was made in connection with the inclusion of a hand-written copy of the "Divan" by the genius Azerbaijani poet and thinker Muhammad Fuzuli in the Register of the "Memory of the World" UNESCO program.

Speaking at the event, academician Akif Alizadeh, President of ANAS assessed the inclusion of a hand-written copy of the "Divan" by Fuzuli in the Register of the "Memory of the World" program as a significant event for Azerbaijan. He underlined the special attention of President Ilham Aliyev and first vice president Mehriban Aliyeva to the practical implementation of the country's prominent cultural heritage in the world.

Speaking about the great contribution of the poet to the treasury of the world culture, the head of ANAS said that the the work was Baku manuscript, which was translated into 1572 after 16 years after the poet's death, which is considered to be the most prominent Turkish version of Fuzuli.

Academician A.Alizadeh noted the importance of the work of other Azerbaijani thinkers in the International Register of "Memory of the World".

Then the ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan for special assignments, Secretary General of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO Elnur Sultanov linked the inclusion of this documentary heritage in the Register of the “Memory of the World” Program with its exceptional value. He said that this confirms the importance of this heritage for humanity.

Recalling that the presentation coincided with the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, E. Sultanov noted that the creative work of Muhammad Fuzuli had great importance during the period of the Republic. It was reported that on November 21, 1919, the opera of the outstanding composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov "Leyli and Majnun" was performed on the stage of the Azerbaijan State Theater in Baku, written on the basis of the same poem by Muhammad Fuzuli.

On the occasion of 400th anniversary of the birth of the poet in 1959, the poem "Leyli and Majnun" by Muhammad Fuzuli was published by UNESCO in English, E. Sultanov brought to attention. And the 500th anniversary of the birth of the poet was celebrated in the framework of the program of anniversaries of outstanding personalities and significant events of UNESCO. He stressed that, at the invitation of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, UNESCO Director General Federico Mayor paid a visit to our country and participated in the 500th anniversary of the birth of Muhammad Fuzuli. On the occasion of this jubilee, gold and silver coins were minted and put into circulation in Azerbaijan.

Then E.Sultanov handed the UNESCO certificate to academician A.Alizade.

Speaking at the event, the vice-president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeylinoted that the inclusion of the copy of M. Fuzuli's manuscript in the International Register "Memory of the World" is an important historical and cultural event for our people and the scientific community of Azerbaijan, confirming that Fuzuli's work belongs to Azerbaijan.

He noted that since the beginning of the 20th century, valuable monographic studies and dissertations related to the poet's work have been created in Azerbaijan. He stressed that the works of the great poet were translated into different world languages in Azerbaijan and distributed on the international arena.

Informing about the rich literary and philosophical heritage of Muhammad Fizuli, academician-secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences of ANAS, director of the Institute of Manuscripts, academician Teymur Kerimlinoted that the work is of great importance for both Eastern poetry and the world literature. He stressed that "Leyli and Majnun" is a work of culture and ethics. T. Kerimli noted that the inclusion of this documentary heritage in the Register of the "Memory of the World" program reflects its exceptional value and significance for humanity.

Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, Academician Rafael Huseynov called the inclusion of Fuzuli's work in the Register of the UNESCO “Memory of the World” Program as a masterpiece of Azerbaijani classical literature, a great achievement.

He noted that Azerbaijan's relations with UNESCO were established in the early 1990s, and close cooperation between our country and this influential organization began after the signing in 1996 of an agreement on cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO. Academician R.Huseynov said that the First Vice President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has exceptional merit in the direction of Azerbaijan's self-affirmation in UNESCO. Mehriban Aliyeva played a major role in promoting our cultural heritage, in particular, in international recognition.

Other speakers at the event noted the importance of investigating and promoting our spiritual heritage.
