State Committee for Work with the Diaspora and National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS organized an international video conference dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the Azerbaijan People Republic.

The event, moderated by museum director academician Rafael Huseynov, was attended by Chairman of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora Fuad Muradov, a well-known diplomat, researcher of the history of emigration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Abutalibov, heirs of the Azerbaijan People Republic - the grandson of the Minister of Roads, Post and Telegraph Khudadat bey Melikaslanov People Artist Ramiz Melikaslanov, granddaughter of Naghi Sheikhzamanli, who headed the first APR security agency, President of the Azerbaijan-American Society in the USA Tomris Azeri, relative of the former member of the City Council of Ganja Alakbar Rafibeyli Ilhami Askeran, who lives in Bursa, granddaughter of the poet of independence - the author of the words of the national anthem of Azerbaijan Ahmad Javad Yagut Abdullayeva and others.

Opening the event, the chairman of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora, Fuad Muradov, congratulated every Azerbaijani on this great event in the history of our people that happened 102 years ago. He spoke about the importance of creating the first secular and democratic state in Azerbaijan in the Muslim East, the irreversibility and consolidation of our state independence, which we created in 1991. The Chairman of the State Committee noted that today Azerbaijanis living and working abroad, including the heirs of the republic, adequately represent Azerbaijan in the world.

Recalling that the outstanding statesman Heydar Aliyev always attached great importance to the history of the republic, its founders and successors, Fuad Muradov said that President Ilham Aliyev was successfully pursuing this policy. He noted that the construction of a monument in the center of Baku to perpetuate the names of the founders of the republic, the proclamation of the “Year of the Republic” on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of APRs, the presentation of medals to the heirs of the republic on the basis of a presidential decree are an indication of the high importance attached to the history of our statehood.

Then the moderator of the event, one of the APR researchers, academician Rafael Huseynov, who personally talked with dozens of successors of the founders of the republic, gave a historical tour in 1918-1920. He said that the APR has left an indelible mark on the history of national statehood thanks to its rich experience in nation-building, strengthening the sense of freedom and independence in the hearts of people and preparing a solid foundation for the future independence of our country. R. Huseynov gave detailed information about the founders of the republic, their diplomatic activities, the formation of parliament during this period and the laws on science and education, political parties and their role in state building, state-religious relations and other activities, adopted in a short time.

“The founders of the republic are great personalities that each of us today, as well as future generations should always remember with gratitude and deep love. This republic, which they built from scratch, the independence that they bestowed on our people, is the greatest achievement of this nation, ”added Academician R. Huseynov.

The director of the museum emphasized that today we remember with love and respect the services of every person who showed heroism in the construction of the republic - a

politician, an ordinary soldier and an ordinary citizen. We believe that future generations will always remember this glorious story with respect.

Then, the representative of the Sheikhzamanli clan Tomris Azeri spoke about the historical significance of the APR, shared her memories of her father and uncle, and emphasized that her parents raised them from childhood in the Azerbaijani spirit.

The participants of the event spoke about the activities of the founders of the republic, the position of Azerbaijan in the world, the struggle for Karabakh, ensuring our territorial integrity, as well as the unprecedented achievements of Heydar Aliyev in uniting Azerbaijanis, organizing the diaspora and creating the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora. They also talked about the high-level diaspora policy led by President Ilham Aliyev, which led to the unity and solidarity of Azerbaijanis throughout the world, and the activities of the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to develop the diaspora at a new level.

Fuad Muradov said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was precisely on behalf of the president and first vice president that Azerbaijanis living abroad and experiencing temporary difficulties felt the attention and care of our state.

The videoconference ended with a video showing the delivery of anniversary medals to APR heirs on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the republic.
