Every year on May 18 is widely celebrated as International Museum Day around the world.

International Museum Day was established in 1977 on the initiative of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Museum Day is arranged in order to demonstrate to society the role of museums in the development of society.

For 2017 this topic was the slogan "Museums and controversial history: Let's talk about complicated".
