The scientific session on "Multiculturalism and Tolerance in Literature and Art" was held jointly by the Department of Humanitarian and Social Sciences at the Main Building of ANAS in connection with the declaration of the “Year of the Family” in the CIS in 2017.

ANAS vice-president, academician Isa Habibbayli, secretary of the Department of Humantitarian Sciences, academician Teymur Kerimli, secretary of the Department of Social Sciences, professor Nargiz Akhundova, Executive Director of the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Oktay Samadov, the relevant scientific institutions directors, employees and other guests.

Opening the session, academician Isa Habibbayli said that Azerbaijan has a great history and traditions of multicultural lifestyle. The speaker noted that for centuries a number of writers, poets and thinkers have found traditions of multiculturalism.

Isa Habibbeyli noted that large-scale events were held in ANAS in "Year of Multiculturalism". He noted that large-scale scientific conferences were organized in some institutes of the Academy, multiculturalism scientific-research department was established at the Philosophy Institute, scientific works and articles on multiculturalism and tolerance issues were presented to the public.

Then scientific reports were listened. Executive director of Baku International Center for Multiculturalism, Ravan Hasanov made a report on "Political and Legal Foundations of Azerbaijani Multiculturalism".

Director of the Institute of Architecture and Art, correspondent member of ANAS Ertegin Salamzadeh spoke at the conference on "Multiculturalism in the fine arts of Azerbaijan". He spoke about the multiculturalism sources in Azerbaijan's art at the intersection of medieval and XIX-XX centuries since the second half of the 20th century. The speaker analyzed the properties and styles of the series of works created by famous brush masters of Azerbaijan - Mikayil Abdullayev, Boyukaga Mirzazade, Salam Salamzadeh, Nadir Abdurahmanov, Asaf Jafarov, Tahir Salahov, Altay Sadikhzadeh, Sakit Mammadov and others.

The scientist noted that the style of postmodernism in the Azerbaijani painting was widely spread during the years of independence, while another independent line of multiculturalism passed through the stages of sculpture. Speaking about statues to prominent foreign cultural figures in Azerbaijan, the speaker said that sculptures were raised around Azerbaijan's great personalities, primarily with the names of sculptors academician Omar Eldarov and Natig Aliyev.

Director of the Institute of Philosophy of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Ilham Mammadzadeh's report on "Multiculturalism Philosophy" was listened at the event. The scientist said that multiculturalism is one of the most pressing problems of modern globalization. Even some scholars and politicians argue that the theory of "death of multiculturalism" did not deny the relevance of this problem.

The session was also attended by the head of Education Department of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, doctor of social sciences Samir Sattarov, dissertant of the institute Gunay Nadirova and others.
