International Scientific Symposium on "Mugam Science in Azerbaijan: Realities and Perspectives" was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan on March 10.

Academician Isa Habibbayli, vice-president of ANAS, opened the event at the Central Scientific Library. The symposium was organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan. The symposium was held within the framework of the V International Mugam Festival. The festival was attended by representatives of France, Canada, Holland, Serbia, Hungary, Turkey, Foreign guests from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan also participated.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that sections of the history of development of mugham art, formation, genre characteristics and other directions are discussed in sections.

Then the reports of the heads of the symposium were listened. Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, academician Rafael Huseynov said that nine lectures with participation of local and foreign experts were heard at the section on "Mugham - makam performance tradition as a contact point of the multicultural world.

Academician-secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences of ANAS, academician Teymur Karimli said that reports on "National interpretations of Mugham Eastern Ladder System", "Sources of psychological influence of mugam performance and musical therapy" were listened in the section.

Director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Academician Mukhtar Imanov emphasized the importance of the symposium on "Mugam creativity at the junction of science and art", "The ways of development of Mugham - history and modernity". Academician Mukhtar Imanov noted that they are planning to hold events within the framework of cooperation with the International Mugham Center in the future.

At the end of the meeting the correspondent member of ANAS Konul Bunyadzadeh gave information about section meeting on "Conceptual essence, language and rhythmic peculiarities of Azerbaijani mugam" held in Ganja.

Then, participants of the event spoke about the importance of the symposium, the results, opportunities for further cooperation.
