In April 2020, marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Azerbaijani writer and statesman Nariman Najaf oglu Narimanov.

Nariman Narimanov, as a well-known writer, playwright, publicist and enlightener, has a large role in enriching Azerbaijani literature with innovative ideas and democratic thoughts. In his works on important issues of time, the main idea of which is a call for enlightenment and cultural progress, the spirit of deep philanthropy dominates. The dramaturgy of Nariman Narimanov made a valuable contribution to the development of the Azerbaijani theater. The patriotic writer, who occupies a worthy place in the history of national fiction, is also known as the author of serious and relevant journalistic works.

There is an organic connection between art and the socio-political activities of Nariman Narimanov. An important part of his life took place in a consistent struggle for the people's cause, which he believed with all his heart and turned into a sacred idea, considering it the most important goal of his life. Despite the extremely difficult conditions of the intensified political struggle, Nariman Narimanov, as a leader for whom national interests have always been above all else, up to the last limit of his capabilities defended the interests of our people in connection with fateful problems. He paid special attention to the preservation of the cultural values of our past, the issues of the purity of our native language, made every effort to develop education and culture, and respected the individuals who were the bearers of the national ideology of that time.

Thanks to the authority and decisiveness of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the socio-political activities of Nariman Narimanov, which left a deep mark in the history of Azerbaijan of the twentieth century, received a well-deserved assessment, was fully brought to the native people. National leader Heydar Aliyev initiated the solemn celebration of the 100th and 125th anniversaries of Nariman Narimanov, the erection of a magnificent monument to him in Baku, as well as the perpetuation of his memory outside our country.

Guided by clause 32 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in order to ensure the 150th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Azerbaijani writer, statesman and socio-political figure Nariman Narimanov I decide:

1. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, taking into account the proposals of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union to prepare and implement an action plan for the 150th anniversary of the outstanding writer and statesman Nariman Narimanov.

2. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall resolve issues arising from this Order.
